Back To An Active Lifestyle | Patient Success Story

Brenda Neville is a former patient of Minnesota Spine Institute who was forced out of her active lifestyle. A herniated disc left her in so much pain that she couldn’t sit up in the car on the way to her procedure.

Lumbar Disc Herniation and Back Pain

Before her back injury, Brenda Neville led an active lifestyle. “This back injury virtually “shut me down” and not only hampered my personal life and activity level but was also impacting my ability to do my job.”

After enduring months of intense pain and conservative treatment including physical therapy, spinal decompression, acupuncture, and injections, she found the Minnesota Spine Institute.

“My only regret is that I didn’t learn about this earlier because I lost a great deal of productivity and quality of life as I suffered with this back issue and a series of treatments and consultations with doctors and health professionals that offered no relief.”

Personalized care

“Dr. Hanson, Jackie, and Melina were wonderful to work with from the very beginning. From my first phone call to the day of surgery, they were all amazing, professional, engaging, and responsive. I called on a Monday morning, uploaded my MRI shortly thereafter and later that evening, Dr. Hanson called me to review the MRI and talk about possible solutions.”

Endoscopic Microdiscectomy

On August 28, 2019, she had endoscopic spine surgery to repair a herniated disc. Following the procedure, Brenda was able to comfortably ride in the car for the 3.5-hour drive home. She felt great the morning after surgery and has continued to since. One month after surgery, she celebrated by running four miles and biking 15.

“I feel truly blessed to have been connected to Dr. Hanson, his outstanding staff, and the Minnesota Spine Institute. The spinal endoscopy gave me my life back and I will be forever grateful for the positive outcome. I highly recommend that anyone with a back issue at the very least get a consultation from the Minnesota Spine Institute. I am confident you will make the same decision I did to move forward with a minimally invasive procedure that not only solves the problem but does so in an efficient and effective manner (virtually no downtime!).”
